Gods Big Blog: Why So Many Americans Are Leaving or Switching Churhes

Recently I reported that about half of Americans have switched their religious affiliation at least once during their lifetimes, according to a Pew Forum survey.

If you’d like to know more, the Pew Forum has an interesting graph on its website reavealing why all those Americans are changing their afilliation. A full seventy-one percent of the switchers said they did so because they “just gradually drifted away from the religion.” Sixty-five percent “stopped believing in the religion’s teachings.”

Ten percent “found a religion they liked more.” Thirty-nine percent were “unhappy with the way religion treated women.” And forty-eight percent said they were “unhappy with teachings on birth control.”
